AVELAR continues to share our library of circa 1970-to-1990 California building and accessibility standards to share with all interested building and accessibility professionals. Many of the historical records to be released are cited in senior partner Lonnie Haughton’s paper chronicling the “History and Backstories of California’s ‘1985 State Building Code’”
The foundations of the California Legislature’s ongoing efforts to require and ensure accessibility in public buildings and public accommodations were laid from 1968 to 1975 by groundbreaking amendments to Government Code 4450 et seq. and related State Laws.We now release a copy of these seminal amendments. (Our team will next release the foundational 1973 manual “Accessibility Check List and Graphic Illustrations” published by State Architect John C. Worsley.)
