AVELAR continues to share our library of circa 1970-to-1990 California building and accessibility standards to share with all interested building and accessibility professionals. Many of the historical records to be released are cited in senior partner Lonnie Haughton’s paper chronicling the “History and Backstories of California’s ‘1985 State Building Code’”.
AVELAR has previously released a copy of State Architect John C. Worsley’s seminal 1973 manual, “Accessibility Check List and Graphic Illustrations,” which established foundational principles and guidelines for providing access to public buildings by California’s physically disabled citizens. We now release a 247-page compendium, published in 1975, of all accessibility laws passed by the state legislature from 1968 onward. Additionally, we are releasing a 30-page compendium of accessibility laws published in 1977 by the California Department of Rehabilitation.
