AVELAR continues to share our library of circa 1970-to-1990 California building and accessibility standards to share with all interested building and accessibility professionals. Many historical records being released are cited in senior partner Lonnie Haughton’s paper chronicling the “History and Backstories of California’s ‘1985 State Building Code’”.
The federal “Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970” created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to ensure safe working conditions for employers and employees. This federal law permits a state to have its own OSHA program as long as it complies with all federal requirements. In 1973, California established its own statewide OSHA program (Cal/OSHA), which the California Department of Industrial Relations administers. Cal/OSHA is monitored by (and partially funded by) the U.S. Department of Labor.
AVELAR now releases from its library a scanned copy of the 534-page 1984 Cal-OSHA Construction Safety Orders published by the Department of Industrial Relations at Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations.
