AVELAR continues to share our library of circa 1970-to-1990 California building and accessibility standards to share with all interested building and accessibility professionals. Many of the historical records to be released are cited in senior partner Lonnie Haughton’s paper chronicling the “History and Backstories of California’s ‘1985 State Building Code’”
In 1985, the State Building Standards Commission adopted a comprehensive new State Building Code that included adaptability regulations for new privately funded apartment buildings in California.
AVELAR previously released a high-quality scanned copy of the ‘1985 State Building Code’. We are releasing a scanned copy of the Department of Housing and Community Development’s seminal 1985 guide ‘A New Horizon – Accessible and Adaptable Apartments.
(Next, our team will release a copy of the 1989 issuance of HCD’s ‘A New Horizon’ manual.)
