This month, we are excited to highlight Madeline Mesa, a key member of our Environmental Department! With a strong educational background spanning environmental economics, social and natural sciences, and environmental assessment, Madeline brings a well-rounded perspective to her work. She has expertise in CEQA, NEPA, LEED, and Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs/EISs), covering areas such as community impacts, transportation, cultural resources, and air quality.
Madeline’s passion for environmental policy was evident during her time at UC Santa Cruz, where she served as Fiscal Co-Chair of the Student Environmental Center, focusing on environmental economic policy and financial planning. She also has experience with city General Plans, including conservation, open space, housing, and noise, giving her a deeper understanding of how environmental regulations shape communities.
At AVELAR, Madeline plays a vital role in home inspections, particularly those related to water intrusion and mold reservoirs. She assists in thorough property assessments, from attics to crawlspaces, and has been trained in mold sampling and installing relative humidity loggers. Using the data collected, she transforms raw information into visual representations, ensuring clear and comprehensive reporting for our clients.
Beyond her professional expertise, Madeline enjoys exploring creative and scientific interests in her free time. She has a passion for cooking and baking, often experimenting with new recipes and hosting dinner gatherings. She also appreciates visiting natural science museums, drawing, and engaging with the arts. Outside of these pursuits, she values time spent with her fiancée, Kat, and their two cats, Rosie and Moose.
We appreciate all that Madeline does to support AVELAR’s mission of ensuring safe, sustainable, and resilient buildings. Thank you, Madeline, for your dedication and expertise!
