Mr. Chekene is a California and Wyoming-licensed Architect and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certified Architect with 48 years of experience providing expert witness services and construction litigation support. He has provided trial and arbitration testimony in numerous high-stakes cases representing both plaintiffs and defendants and has been deposed in over 300 construction defect cases. His expertise spans residential, commercial, and institutional projects, from single-family homes to high-rise condominiums and public facilities. Mr. Chekene is responsible for field investigations, code compliance reviews, preparation of reconstruction design documents, contract administration, and serves as Principal Architect, President, and Chief Executive Officer of AVELAR.

Professional History:
Prior to joining Richard Avelar + Associates (now AVELAR) in 1991, Dan was an Associate Partner and Project Manager at HED Architects (1985-1991), where he managed high-tech, institutional, laboratory, and commercial projects. Before that, he served as Associate and Project Manager at Esherick, Homsey, Dodge, and Davis (1976-1985), working on diverse projects including the internationally renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium, the San Francisco Zoological Gardens exhibits and Stanford University History Corner Reconstruction. He began his career at Rutherford and Chekene Consulting Engineers (1970-1976) as a draftsman and architect-in-training.

Educational History:
Dan received his Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 1972, and his Master of Architecture from UC Berkeley in 1974.
