Forensic + Litgation Support, Consulting

Mr. Field performs consulting services for field investigations, failure analysis, building code research, expert witness testimony and development of repair solutions for residential or commercial buildings in support of construction defect litigation . He provides analysis and opinions of construction defects, construction delays, and Architect standard of care. He also provides accessibility reviews for existing buildings.

Professional History:
Coming from a background of custom residential design, David is very familiar with the challenges and intricacies of residential construction. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley in 1995 and received his Master of Architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1998. Working at multiple design firms during those years, his responsibilities included drafting, design, and sight observation.

In 2000, David began working at Richard Avelar & Associates where he performed litigation support duties, including site observation and code compliance analysis. After obtaining his Architect’s license in 2004, he began assisting with post-litigation reconstruction in both repair design and contract administration. Currently, David performs forensic investigation and expert witness services, including building performance and code compliance review, repair specifications, and contract administration.

David is also an active member of the consulting and design community in addition to being a California Access Specialist. He is on the ASTM Committee that creates the Building Code standards for stucco installation, has served on Code Advisory Committee for the California Building Code for the 2016 and 2019 code cycles, and serves the City of Pleasant Hill on its Building Board of Appeals, ruling on Building Code disputes which arise between residents and the Building Department.

Educational History:
Mr. Field received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley in 1995 and received his Master of Architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1998. Since then, he has become a licensed Architect in California (C 29778), Texas (24844), and Nevada (8270). He also has his NCARB Certificate (84200) and is a California Access Specialist (CASp 915)
